Instructions

Use Raising Readers to establish

  • what you need to do to get children ready for reading and writing
    at school - ahead of the pack

  • how your children are progressing in their quest to be ready for school learning

  • how school-age children are progressing in their literacy development

  • how to accelerate children's literacy development

  • how to help children overcome a slow beginning to Literacy

  • how to improve children's reading, writing, and spelling skills.

  1. Begin on the HOME page. 
     

  2. Click on the stage that best fits the child's age or stage of development.
     

  3. Read through the milestones, checking off the ones that the child can pass now. 
     

  4. Click on the text to follow the links to find out more about those milestones you do not understand. 
     

  5. Print the stage checklist off so that you know what milestones are yet to be reached, and so that you can keep a record of their progress.
     

  6. Tackle the earliest milestones first and plan to help children pass the ones that are appropriate for their age so that there are no gaps.
     

  7. Read ahead to see what milestones are coming up in the future, so that you are aware and able to capitalise on opportunities as they arise.
     

  8. Use the Activities from the main menu to help you achieve these milestones.
     

  9. Use the Assessment and Teaching tools to explore your child's development in more depth, and to learn more about the details of what they need.
     

  10. Read the menu Articles that interest you to gain background information and improve your understanding of teaching and learning.
