PRE READING CHECKLIST

© Phil Builder 2003

For HELP see Stage 1 or   Stage  2 links

Use this to assess readiness to begin formal reading and writing in school.

Print this form and complete it over a suitable period of time by checking each box.  Observe your child at play, and in situations where they can demonstrate their knowledge.  Record most obvious things first, then ask the child to do the specific things that you need to complete the list.   Every item needs to be known.  Anything not known will need to be taught.
Children who complete this checklist are already beginning to read and write.
