  What it means
Text guide: paragraph of text, matching pictures  Books are now containing more print per page.  Two or more sentences per page make up a paragraph.  The pictures still match the text closely but the text load makes this more difficult to achieve.  This means that learners have to know more words by sight, and be really clever at working out new words on the fly.  Their sight vocabulary will have expanded to 100 words or more, and guesses or predictions about new words will be guided (as before) by context and syntax, and also by more detailed print knowledge.  This means that the child will be using first and other letters within new words to help in the prediction of their meaning.

As before, maintain Book Orientations, read books together, and help your child become an independent reader.
